"Remembering Martin Luther King Through Service." Volunteers will plant trees in the
Martin Luther King, Jr. historic district in co-operation with Trees Atlanta. Sponsored by
Volunteer Emory, the Division of Campus Life and the Nu Delta Chapter of Kappa
Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. To volunteer for this project, pre-registration is required.

Members of the National PanHellenic Council and the Multicultural Greek Council at
Emory will make "no-sew" fleece blankets for inner-city pre-school children at the
Hamilton Head Start. Room 355 of the Dobbs University Center.



KEYNOTE SPEAKER 4:00PM
"King’s Legacy and the New Civil Rights Frontiers." Melissa Harris-Perry, professor of
 political science, Tulane University, MSNBC contributor and columnist for The Nation
magazine, will speak. Sponsored by the African American Studies Department, the
Laney Graduate School, the Office of Community and Diversity, the Division of
Campus Life and the Martin Luther King Holiday Observance Committee. Cannon

READINGS 12 NOON 
"Words That Changed the World" Emory students, faculty and staff will read from
speeches and letters written by prominent civil rights leaders from around the world,
including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mohandas Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, and Aung San
Suu Kyi. Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life. Coca Cola Commons, Dobbs
University Center.


DRUM CIRCLE 1:00PM
"Unite, Uplift and Inspire." An African drum circle to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. featuring The Drum Café "Atlanta. Join the drum circle with limited seating for
forty. The Drum Café will perform on West African djembe drums. Coca Cola
Commons, Dobbs University Center. Sponsored by the Dobbs University Center.



FORUM 4:00PM 
"Women Talking With Women, Men Talking With Men: Reflecting on Race, Ethnicity,
and Culture." This event features women and men of different backgrounds and
experiences sharing and creating conversations with one another in separate
groups then joining together for a discussion in the end. Individuals should join the
group with which they identify. The women's group will meet in room 362 Dobbs
University Center and the men's group will meet in room 363 Dobbs University
Center. Moderators: Pam Epps, PhD and Ben Stillman, PhD, Emory Counseling Center.

FORUM 6:30PM 
"Men In Dialogue" Given the recent dedication of the MLK, Jr., Memorial on the Mall in
Washington, D.C., we will reflect on the magnitude of the lasting legacy of Dr. King.
Our 2012 theme seeks to address our own individual legacies. What Will Be Your
Legacy? How Do You Want To Be Remembered? Intergenerational groups will discuss
the legacy of Dr. King and our own legacy. Sponsored by the Emory University Career
Center, S.O.U.L, Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc., and the Martin Luther King

discuss women’s involvement in SNCC and other civil rights organizations. Panelists:
Constance Curry, retired director, human services, City of Atlanta; Emilye Crosby,
professor of history and coordinator Africana/Black studies, SUNY and visiting scholar,
James Weldon Johnson Institute; Jacqueline Rouse, associate professor, African
American History, Georgia State University. Sponsored by the Center for Women and

ECUMENICAL CELEBRATION - OXFORD COLLEGE Annual event celebrating the Civil
